BOARD OF EDUCATION CANDIDATES -

Jen Beausoleil

I am honored to be currently serving the community I love as Chairman of the Board of Education. I believe Coventry's youth deserve representatives on the BOE who understand how to work in partnership with education professionals, parents, and the community. It is critical that the Coventry school system meet each child’s education and developmental needs as they prepare to live and work in our ever changing 21st century world.

My husband Vern and I are long-time residents of Coventry (30 years), and our children are Coventry High School graduates. I am secretary of Coventry Lions Club, founding member of Coventry Citizens for Responsible Government, member of EASTCONN Board of Directors, and a former Coventry Youth Basketball coach.

I have also held the position of Vice-Chairman of the BOE, Chair of the BOE Policy Sub-committee, and numerous other BOE sub-committees, including Fiscal, Policy, Executive, Roof, Expulsion, Gym Naming, Field Naming, Preschool Development, Technology, Superintendent Search, and over 35 labor contract negotiations. In 2021 I was designated a Master Board Member in the CABE Board Academy by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education(CABE). In 2016 I received the Northrop Grumman Corporate Award for Excellence in Volunteerism for community service.

I recently retired from a career of software & electrical engineering management where I led cross discipline technology teams to develop software systems and hi-tech solutions for product development and research-based companies.

Megan Boshuyzen

Since moving to Coventry in 2021, my husband Mike and I have felt deeply grateful to be part of such a welcoming, close-knit community. We were drawn to Coventry for its rural charm, and quickly discovered a town committed to connection and shared values. Our daughter is currently thriving in the Coventry public school system, and we’ve seen firsthand the impact of dedicated educators and strong leadership.

Great schools don’t happen by chance — they're the result of collaboration, vision, and hard work. That’s why I’m running for the Board of Education: to ensure that Coventry continues to uphold the highest standards in public education while adapting to the evolving needs of our students.

Professionally, I bring a background rooted in literacy, inclusion, and digital accessibility. I’ve supported PJ Library, a program that provides books to families raising Jewish children, and I co-founded Mango and Marigold Press, an independent publishing house that amplifies South Asian voices in children’s literature. These experiences have taught me the critical role that representation, literacy, and authentic storytelling play in shaping young minds.

Currently, I work as an email developer, where I advocate for web accessibility and equitable digital experiences. I believe access to education and information is a fundamental right for every learner.

Outside of work, I’m actively involved in the community. I serve as Vice President of Coventry Soccer and coach my daughter’s soccer team. I also practice martial arts at Villari’s of Mansfield and compete in powerlifting — activities that reflect my belief in perseverance, mentorship, and lifelong learning.

I’m ready to bring this same energy and dedication to the Board of Education. I look forward to listening, learning, and working collaboratively with other board members to support the students, families, and educators who make our district so special.

Mary Kortmann

Mary Kortmann and her husband, Dr. Robert Kortmann, have lived in Coventry for 45 years. Both their sons are Coventry High graduates, and they are proud grandparents of Silas, currently in the Coventry school system.  For 28 years she and her husband have managed their small business based in Coventry, Ecosystem Consulting Service, Inc. Mary has now retired.  Previously, Mary had a career in data processing at the Travelers Insurance Co., including 10 years as a manager. Mary currently serves on the Board of Education, and has served as Chair of the Board’s Fiscal Subcommittee. Mary’s dedication to our community includes volunteer service on the Coventry Economic Development Commission, active support for the PTOs at all 4 schools, and serving as both Treasurer and President of the Coventry High School Band Booster Club.

Emma Eaton

My husband Jason and I have lived in Coventry for 19 years, and we’re proud that our three children have grown up in Coventry’s public schools. As both a parent and an educator—with degrees in Elementary and Special Education—I care deeply about the quality of our school system and the experiences of the students and families it serves. I’ve roughly served my community as a member of the Board of Education since 2021.

This spring, I was encouraged to see so many families actively engaged in the school budget process. That energy is exactly what we need more of—parents and community members working together to support our schools. I’m running again for the Board of Education because I want to help build that connection and continue working toward strong, thoughtful solutions for our district.

Over the years, I’ve volunteered in many roles within our schools. I’ve served as PTO President at both CGS and GHR, helped establish a PTO for HEEC, and help organize the Coventry PTO Craft Show. I also support Project Grad, PJ Day, and Dollars for Scholars. Some projects I’ve helped lead include installing a permanent shade structure at CGS, upgrading all water fountains with bottle-filling stations at CGS, and funding literacy programs and cultural arts assemblies. And if you’ve seen encouraging signs on school fences or around town—those are my work too. I’m always thinking about how we can uplift our students, families, and schools in visible, meaningful ways.

I will continue to bring that same dedication, thoughtfulness, and hands-on experience to the Board of Education.
